Fungal Infections

There are many different fungal infections that affect the foot. When the toenails are affected, the technical name is onychomycosis or tinea unguin. Tinea is another name for a fungal infection and an infection of the skin in the foot is usually called tinea pedis.

The reason the foot is so prone to fungal infections is that the fungal microorganisms that infect the foot thrive in the dark and moist environment of the footwear.
